v Mommy & Baby Class – Currently Cancelled: Taught by Trisha Johnson, this exercise class is designed to give new mothers the opportunity to enjoy exercise, massage, singing, dancing and games with their new babies. Ø This class is offered by appointment only.
During the class new mothers will have the opportunity to learn about child development.
Ø Classes may be started right after birth and certainly within three months.
Ø The classes last an hour to an hour and a half and are limited to 3 mothers and babies.
Ø Each class costs $10.00 per mommy & Baby (multiples are welcome, no extra charge for extra babies up to triplets) unless a class package is purchased for 4 classes total, then each class is $8.00 for a total of $32.00.
v Prenatal Exercise –Currently Cancelled: Taught by Trisha Johnson, this class is designed to help pregnant women improve comfort & develop body awareness. Women are encouraged to enjoy their changing shape and to develop good posture and breathing habits. Ø This class is offered by appointment only.
Ø The class will strengthen the key muscles stressed in child bearing (the abdominals & pelvic floor).
Ø The exercises are designed to prepare a pregnant woman for all the lifting, holding and squatting necessary in childcare. Ø Gentle & flowing movements will stretch, condition, and relax the whole body. Each class costs $10.00 per person unless a class package is purchased for 4 classes total, then each class is $8.00 for a total of $32.00.

Ø This class is offered by appointment only.
Ø The classes provide an opportunity for sharing with other mothers of newborns. Ø Classes may be started at 4-6 weeks postpartum if cleared by your OB. Ø These classes focus on regaining strength in the abdominals and pelvic floor along with a total body strengthening. Ø Newborn babies are welcome to come along and breast feeding/bottle feeding if necessary during class is supported and encouraged. Ø Each class lasts one hour and costs $10.00 per person unless a class package is purchased for 10 classes total, then each class is $8.00 for a total of $32.00.
v Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment – Currently Cancelled: This class is taught by Jennifer L. Ortiz, MPT and is designed to inform and educate persons facing osteoporosis (sometimes referred to as osteopenia) and those diagnosed currently with osteoporosis. Each participant must call ahead and reserve your space in this class. Ø The class is one and a half hours long with the first half hour spent in lecture format to educate patients with the most current and up-to-date information on nutrition, exercise and hormone replacement therapy. § Handouts with summaries of all material presented will be distributed at the start of the class. Ø The second hour will include a short question and answer period along with an open format discussion period. Then a simple and safe exercise program will be both demonstrated by the instructor and by volunteer members of the audience as well as given to each class member in a handout with explanation and photographs of the exercises. § For those wishing for a more detailed and extensive exercise program along with manual therapy as needed, you may schedule a separate appointment with a physical therapist. This may be especially important for both those with advanced osteoporosis (as you will need careful monitoring of your exercise program), and those who are athletes and wish to have the most advanced exercise program possible. Ø This class is offered by appointment only.
v "To The Core" - Core Strengthening for the Endurance Athlete
Currently Cancelled: This class is taught by personal trainer and triathlete, Trisha Johnson. This is a unique exercise class that is designed to challenge and improve the performance of any endurance athlete, however, it would improve the core strength of anyone who participates. As the instructor says, " The class was designed for triathletes but it will kick anyone's butt!"
The class runs from 45 minutes to an hour and costs 10 dollars per class or you can purchase 4 at a time for $34.00. Like all of our classes you must call and reserve your spot in advance. Wear supportive tennis shoes as much of this class is on your feet. The class is designed so that all levels of athletes can participate without fear of injury. Schedule: Monday nights at 6:00pm, must call in advance to hold your place, 5 maximum.
v Jennifer L. Ortiz, MPT – Jennifer has a Masters in physical therapy, is registered in the state of Maryland and an owner of Her Health Physical Therapy. She is also specializing in women’s health. Below is a basic description of her resume and course studies.
Ø Experience – Jennifer started as a self-employed contract physical therapist working at multiple locations. This flexibility allowed her to develop and maintain her skills in neuro-rehabilitation, outpatient orthopedics, wound care, and sports physical therapy. She then worked for 2 years managing the Physical Therapy Department at University of Maryland Student Health Services treating varsity athletes, club athletes and the general student population. Later she worked at The Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center LLC as a staff therapist treating outpatient orthopedics, sports injuries and post-surgical dysfunction. This is where Jennifer began to develop an interest in specializing in the treatment of women especially female athletes and pre- and post-natal conditions. Finally Jennifer worked at Washington Adventist Hospital where she continued to develop her interest in women’s health and lymphedema. Ø Course Studies – The additional specialty courses Jennifer has taken have focused on breast cancer recovery, osteoporosis treatment and prevention, certified strength and conditioning, pre- and post-natal treatment and exercise, core strengthening and women’s health treatment with focus on urinary incontinence and pelvic pain.
Trisha Johnson – Trisha is a staff member of Her Health Physical Therapy and especially essential to the operations of the business. Trisha has worked part time as a childcare provider since she was 15 and into her first two years of college. She also worked with children at a summer camp for 7 years, often working with large groups of children of all ages, some with disabilities. Trisha also works as a personal trainer and is developing exercise classes for increasing triathlete and female athlete strength and conditioning.
Ø Trisha lives in Silver Spring, MD with her husband Ben and continues to participate in gymnastics as well as triathlon. Trisha loves animals and is the proud “mother’ of several adorable animals.
